Cottages Lake District

There are so many holiday cottages in the Lake District o choose from, but where can I go to keep away from the rain? I hear you ask… well the truth is you can’t. There’s nowhere dry, when you come to the Lake District it’s inevitable, so you might as well embrace it with open arms.

People who live here complain about the rain… but never move. Visitors grumble about the rain, but keep coming back. So what is it that brings them back … well if we think about it, it’s the rain! Rain, I hear you say – don’t be ridiculous, well it is and here’s why. When you are tucked up in your holiday cottage in the Lake District, fire glowing with heat, cup of tea and cake all snuggled in, away from reality, how fantastic does it feel to be there, when it’s raining outside?

Exactly! When you are booking a holiday cottage, the Lake District springs to mind, why? Is it the open beautiful green landscapes and scenery? The thought of getting lost in the mountains for a while, taking a trip up one of our many lakes or canoeing down the rivers, yep you’ve guessed it, well if it didn’t rain, there’d be no greenery and the activities allowed on our lakes and rivers would be minimal – if sanctioned at all. Our wildlife would be limited, rear breeds of heathers and plant life nonexistent and so on. All this rain makes your holiday cottage in the Lake District much more enticing, especially after a good walk from tearoom to tearoom, dodging the fall, and making it more memorable. I know I’d much rather have got drenched and cold after a good walk and be warming up next to a toasty fire with a hot toddy than rinsing the sand from my cloths, again!

All this fresh air is addictive and if your honest, there’s nothing much to complain about in the Lake District and as rain is the most prominent part of our daily lives then it might as well be that! Those early morning views over the lake as the mist is lifting, the moody sky bruising to burst, no wonder so many artists have and do live here in their cottages. Lake District lovers everywhere know it rains and that creates the perfect atmosphere for indulging yourself in reading and certainly writing a book. So, we who live here are still living here and our visitors, well they just keep coming back; I think that speaks for its self.
